THE COMPASS Published by Elizabeth City State College for Students and Alumni Elizabeth City, N.C., November, 1963 May 29, 1917-November 22, 1963 35th President of the United States Tribute to John Fitzgerald Kennedy His works and memories linger, While his body lies silently at rest. Poets, musicians, and singers of great men speak: “Kennedy ! One of the best.” -> He fought bravely and strongly for the Negro Race, To him the word “Negro” should bear no disgrace. He fought for justice, equality and peace, His stride toward Civil Rights never ceased. So let us unselfishly pay tributes to him. Honor his beliefs and respect his name. “His light in the hearts of men will ne’er grow dim!’ Perhaps this, may be his great Hymn. —Lovellia Johnson ‘65
